Kimberly Zimmerman Rand has over a dozen years in developing and managing social and economic development programs. She works as a trainer and technical assistance provider where she advises on IDA and homebuyer education programs. She is a trainer with the Assets Alliance IDA Training Institute and is a certified Homebuyer Education Trainer through Neighborworks America.
Most recently Ms. Rand served as Interim Vice President for Operations for the International Institute of Boston, a $5 million organization providing comprehensive professional services to immigrants and refugees. In this position she provided short-term leadership and hands-on support to the agency’s infrastructure during its transition between presidents. She chaired the committee comprised of members of senior management and provided tactical advice to the board of directors on matters relating to IIB’s short-term direction and capacities.
Prior to this position Ms. Rand directed the YouthBuild National Individual Development Account Program and the YouthBuild Loan Fund. YouthBuild USA is a national intermediary to YouthBuild programs serving unemployed and undereducated young people working towards their GED or high school diploma while learning job skills by building affordable housing.
Ms. Rand served as Director of Economic Development for the International Institute of Boston from 2000 until 2004. In this position she oversaw three initiatives The Multilingual Homebuyer Project, “Savings for Success” IDA program, and “Bridges to Business” microenterprise development program. Before working at IIB Ms. Rand was a Business Trainer in the Microenterprise Division of Jewish Vocational Service where she taught intensive business planning courses to refugee entrepreneurs.
International consulting experience includes a USAID-funded initiative to promote naturalization among ethnic minorities in Latvia.
Ms. Rand holds a Master of Social Work degree in Social and Economic Development and Management from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Colby College.
